The album sounds accessible enough to get the attention of a mainstream artist, but still keep its rock edge. The production alone separates this album from their previous releases as it has a much more tight and powerful feeling to it, which matches the music very well. Production: The production on this album was done by Justin Meldal-Johnsen with Taylor York co-producing some tracks. The band now consisted of Hayley Williams, Tayler York, and Jeremy Davis.ĭid these three create an album that justified the continued existence of Paramore? Well, let’s look back at this album and see. Many thought that Paramore were just gonna break up and Hayley was going to go solo, but the remaining three members of Paramore reintroduced themselves as a brand new band. The subject of today’s review, Paramore’s self titled album, is clearly the latter, and it reminds me a lot of Blur’s self titled record in that it completely disregards the band’s previous work in order to create something new.Īnd while Blur weren’t necessarily in the best place when they made their self titled album, it was nothing compared to what was going on with Paramore.įollowing the release of their successful third record Brand New Eyes, founding members Josh and Zac Farrow left the band, and they weren’t exactly nice about it either, to say the least. Self titling your albums means you’re either establishing yourself as band, or establish a new era for your band.Īn example of the former is Van Halen’s self titled debut where the band established themselves as a hard rocking yet fun group that added variety to the genre of metal, and an example of the latter is is Blur’s self titled album, where they abandoned the genre they themselves help popularized and actually proved to be ahead of the curb as they survived the eventual downfall of said genre.
Self titling your album is kind of a bold statement when you think about it.
